Edwards Urges Congress to Stand Firm on Iraq Pullout Timetable

Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards says Congress must press its demand for a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq.

He says former CIA Director George Tenet's new memoir on the buildup to war shows Vice President Dick Cheney and others pushed for war without debating whether Saddam Hussein was an imminent threat.

Edwards was at a town hall meeting at the UNLV campus today with about 300 people.

Edwards says Democrats in Congress need to keep sending President Bush funding bills that set a timetable for a troop withdrawal until the president gives in.

Bush has vowed to veto any bill with a timetable for withdrawal and called on Democrats to compromise.
