Residents Seek Reprieve for Reno YMCA

A group of residents will make another attempt to save the YMCA building on Foster Driver.

The group plans to ask the City Council Wednesday to take over the facility and convert it to a community center.

But that would also require the council's consent for a 30-day delay on a land-use decision that could pave the way for homes on
the site.

West Haven Development purchased the YMCA and its 4 acres in February for 2.4 million dollars.

It needs a master plan change to build up to 52 homes.

City officials say fixing up the aging YMCA building and buying the property would cost more than 8 million dollars and require financial help from outside groups.
