Power is restored to nearly all of the 3,000 NV Energy customers who had their power knocked out when a car hit a power pole near the intersection of South Virginia Street and West Huffaker Lane Sunday afternoon.
Police said no one was hurt in the accident. Authorities said they believe the driver dropped something inside the vehicle and was trying to pick it up when the car crashed into the pole.
The crash happened around noon and about half of those without power had it restored around 2 p.m. The rest of the customers had electricity again by 2:30 p.m.
Traffic was directed around the accident and many traffic lights went dark during the outage.
The outage affected not only residents, but also local businesses Sunday afternoon.
On football Sunday, JoeBob's Chicken Palace is normally bustling with activity, but instead it was dark and mostly empty.
“Just a large crash, it's only about 50 yards from the entrance of our restaurant then the power started flickering and it went off completely," the owner of JoeBob's Chicken Palace said.
