RENO, Nev. (AP) - A storm has brought up to 15 inches of snow to the Sierra Nevada and smiles to the faces of skiers and snowboarders.

The Boreal resort atop Donner Summit reports 12 to 15 inches of new snow, while the Alpine Meadows resort just north of Lake Tahoe reports 8 to 10 inches of new snow.

The Squaw Valley USA and Northstar-at-Tahoe resorts opened for the season Saturday. The Boreal and Mt. Rose resorts opened earlier.

The resorts will be open daily with limited operations until they receive more snow.

Cold temperatures are allowing ski resorts to crank up their snow-making machines into higher gear.

Other resorts plan to open soon.
