Sparks Council Hears Final Report on City Attorney Investigation

The Sparks City Council is closer to a decision on the controversy surrounding City Attorney Chet Adams.

It has received the final review on the investigation into allegations of misconduct against Adams and voted today to continue the discussion until next month.

The City Council voted 3 to 1 to continue the discussion until May.

The delay will let city staff research and provide information on four issues.

Those are: 1) Whether a grand jury investigation is warranted, 2) If censure is warranted, 3) What employee reporting structure exists in the city attorney's office, 4) and whether a new ordinance should outline the salary and benefits for the city attorney.

The Council authorized the City Manager in December to retain an independent attorney to investigate allegations of misconduct by the city attorney and report the findings to council members.
