Authorities have not officially identified the pilot killed in Friday’s plane crash in Susanville, but the Lassen County Sheriff’s Office is saying they believe the victim is the plane’s registered owner, Harold H. Gartner III of California.

The Lassen County Sheriff’s Office confirmed their belief that Gartner was the victim Saturday and they expect the official release of the victim’s name to come soon.

The plane, a single-engine Cessna 182, crashed 2 miles from where it departed at Susanville Municipal Airport around 1pm Friday.

The plane had been headed to Lodi.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but the weather was bad at the time of the crash, with heavy snow and low visibility.

The FAA and NTSB will investigate this accident.
