NHP is releasing the name of the woman killed in a massive accident Friday afternoon on Interstate 80 by mile marker 70, just east of Fernley.

Susan Carol Sakurada, 52 of Winnemucca was killed when the white 1992 Ford F-350 she and her husband were riding in crashed into an 18-wheeler truck that was stopped in the westbound lane. The 18-wheeler had been involved in a separate accident just moments before. The Ford pickup was then hit from behind by another 18-wheeler truck.

Nevada Highway Patrol officers say as many as four separate crashes happened on the highway, leaving seven people injured. Several people had to be extricated, and were taken by ambulances to Renown Regional Medical Center.

At the time of the accident, extremely strong wind created tough driving conditions, with low visibility.

The accident is still being investigated and anyone who witnessed the accidents to contact Trooper Kris Satterwhite at (775) 689-4682 or the Department of Public Safety-Communications Center at (775) 687-0400 regarding case # NHP-0911200662.

My sympathy to the one's in Winnemucca that lost a family member! What a horrible accident! And to KC in Reno that many vehicles in that bad of a wreck can't just be moved off the side of the road to accomadate a inconcienced driver. Did you see any of the pictures the massive amount of vehicles combined with the horrible conditions is gonna take a little time to clean up. Plus NHP has to reconstruct the accident scene to try and figure out what caused it to begin with. I just hope this person didn't die in vein and driver's will learn to be a little more cautious out there because when that dust is blowing it is far worse than trying to drive in snow.

My mother was the one who passed away. That day I will never forget, I lost the one who taught me everything good, but was lucky enough to still have my father who also taught me the same, together as a team. Even when there are arrogant people with their opinions about it. She taught me to be the bigger person and take the higher road. My family joins me in thanking everyone for their condolences. And our hearts and prayers go out to anyone else involved in that accident.
