RENO, NV - Reno police believe a severe drug addiction is what prompted a local man to commit eight robberies since Sunday.

Officers arrested 42-year-old Daniel Merry at about 9:30 Thursday morning, after he allegedly stole a car and finished off a week-long robbery spree by hitting two final businesses.

Police believe it's the same man responsible for eight other robberies we've been reporting on this week. They say he finished up by allegedly robbing the Port-O-Subs on Mae Anne and McCarran at gunpoint. This is after police say he also robbed a local dry cleaners just a few blocks from here, and apparently stole a car.

Police say after a high speed chase and a pursuit on foot, Daniel Merry's luck finally ran out.

"We knew he would hit, we just didn't know where or when. We had every resource out there," said Lt. Mike Whan with the Reno Police Department.

Merry's accused of robbing eight different places, including two sandwich shops, two boutiques, a dry cleaners, and a coffee shop. They say when he was taken into custody, he was high on drugs, desperate for money to pay for his next fix.

"He was stuffing money into his pockets and I said what are you doing?" explained Robbie Milton, manager at Label's Consignment boutique, which was robbed Tuesday afternoon.

Milton says, instinct kicked in when Merry allegedly confronted her with a knife.

"She says now you're doing armed robbery? You could get in a lot of trouble for that. He was out and ran. Robbie chased him and the post lady chased him," said Blythe Anderson, owner of Label's.

Milton says she just wishes Merry had given the money back. While she and the other employees are happy he's behind bars now, she says the experience will have long-term effects.

"I found myself looking at people driving to see if I could spot him, so it makes you hyper vigilant," said Milton.

But police say the ending could have been much worse.

"He went from telling them he had a gun to using a knife. Today he used a handgun. So, he progressed as far as his ability to terrorize people," said Whan.

And if he's convicted of eight robberies, several using a weapon, it could be awhile before Merry is back on the streets.

"Luckily, no one was hurt and we're thankful that just money was taken, but who knows?" said Anderson.

Anderson, says after she was robbed, she called her friend who owns the Kalifornia Jean Bar to warn her to keep a smaller amount of cash in her register, just in case. It turns out, the Jean Bar was robbed the next day, and if she hadn't listened to Blythe, the robber could have gotten away with a lot more money, money police say is most likely already in a drug healer's hands.

Police say Merry does have a wife, but it's unclear whether they have any children together. He's being held on at least four charges of armed robbery. Police say charges on the other four robberies will be filed in the upcoming days as they process more evidence.
