Sarah Palin will soon be making a stop in the Biggest Little City.
It comes as part of her national book tour for "Going Rogue." The former Republican vice presidential candidate will appear at the Reno Costco next month. According to Costco manager Barbara Sullivan, Palin will be signing books on December 9th, starting at 7pm. The first 1,000 people will get their books signed.
"We're all stocked up," Barbara says. "We got the banner up. And we're ready to go."
Wednesday Palin's Reno appearance was listed on the HarperCollins website, the publisher of "Going Rogue." The book sells for $28.99.
Palin's book tour will cross the country in cities that are mainly Republican strongholds. No major cities are on the list.
As for Reno, Robert Uithoven, campaign manager for Sue Lowden, a Republican trying to run against U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, says, "She remains very popular among the conservative base in our state. She's aware Nevada is a swing state and without a doubt she is back with the kind of attention she generates. She still plays a very significant role in politics."
Eric Herzik, University of Nevada, Reno political scientist and a registered Republican, says "She's a celebrity selling a book, but Reno is an area where she has a base of political support. She did nothing to hurt herself with her base of supporters in the region and my guess is she'll draw a large crowd."
Chip Evans, chairman of the Washoe County Democratic Party, also firmly agrees. He explains, "It does nothing but good for people to get to know her. She has criteria for where she wants to be seen where she can find a sympathetic audience and she thinks this will be a good place for her."
Twice in 2008, Palin made stops in Northern Nevada as part of her vice presidential campaign. She delivered her first solo stump speech of the campaign in Carson City and making a final visit in Reno on the eve of the election.
As for her background as governor of Alaska, Palin resigned from that role this year. In recent televised interviews, she has yet to confirm if she will seek the Republican nomination for president in 2012.
The Reno Costco is located at 2200 Harvard Way.
