The Denim Drive event runs now through December 18th, and consists of more than 120 "Denim Drop" locations all over Northern Nevada. People can drop off jeans, socks and underwear for kids who really need them.

The Reno Rodeo Denim Drive will kick off the Denim Drive with a horse-drawn Reno Rodeo Chuck Wagon. The wagon will travel with a procession beginning at Lawlor Events Center down South Virginia and Kietzke Lane on Saturday, November 21st, stopping at participating businesses and loading up with donations to be delivered to local children cared for by the residential Kids Kottage, the McGee Center for Adolescent Services, and Washoe County Social Services.

The Denim Drive was developed because The Reno Rodeo Foundation saw that local children in protective custody do not have enough clean, new clothing. Children are rescued from their homes, most often at night, and brought to the Kids Kottage, sometimes hungry with just the clothes on their backs.

"There are so many wonderful charities that will be able to provide plenty of toys for the children, but we found the kids in protective custody need clothes, especially jeans, shirts, socks and underwear," says Marie Baxter, Executive Director of the Reno Rodeo Foundation and coordinator of the Denim Drive.

People can help by purchasing new denim clothing, white socks and underwear in any infant, children or adolescent sizes, and dropping them at designated "denim drop" locations. 100% of online or cash donations are used to purchase clothing.

"Last year was a success thanks to our giving community. We collected enough denim clothing, new socks and underwear for every child in Washoe County Foster Care and protective custody. That's more than 1,200 kids. We were able to clothe the kids that need it most all year round, not just during the holidays, but for summer and back to school too," says Baxter.
