The Federal Government originally set Monday as the tax deadline, but since it's Emancipation Day in Washington, this year you get a little extra time.
Tax preparers at Jackson-Hewitt say there weren't too many last minute filers in this weekend, but with the extra day to file, they're expecting bigger crowds Monday and Tuesday.
Even with the extra day, tax specialists say you shouldn't relax yet. There's not much time left to fix mistakes, so it's better to have all of your paperwork organized before you head to the tax office.
If you still haven't filed, most local tax offices have extended hours Monday and Tuesday.
The absolute latest time you can drop your taxes off in the mail and still make the April 17th deadline is 10:00 p.m. Tuesday night. The main post offic branch on Vassar Street will be open until the deadline. Smaller branches in Reno and Sparks will be open until 5:30 Tuesday evening.
