Chains or snow tires were required this morning in the Sierra and portions of northern Nevada.
Snow fell overnight and into the pre-dawn hours, making some roads slick and icy during the morning commute around the Reno-Carson City area.
Travel restrictions are posted for most mountain roads, including Interstate 80 over Donner Summit and U-S 50 over Echo Summit.
Forecasters say temperatures today will be chilly, with highs in the 40s to low 50s.
Snow showers will taper off through the day.
A snow advisory has been issued for north central and eastern Nevada as the storm moves east.
