Man Jailed For DUI Following Argument Over Dog

A dispute over a dog at a Sparks apartment complex left a man in jail and a woman in the hospital.

Police said Janet Shipps and Michael Hastings got into an argument after his dog relieved itself near her unit early Sunday morning at the Home Suites Apartments on East Lincoln Way.

Hastings is accused of ignoring her request to clean up after the dog and driving away in his pickup.

In an effort to stop him, Shipps held on to the driver's mirror, was dragged alongside the truck and run over by a rear tire in the parking lot, officers said.

Shipps, 46, was taken to Washoe Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition.

Hastings drove to the police station to report the incident and was arrested on suspicion on felony drunken driving causing substantial bodily harm and driving on a revoked driver's license.

He also had been sought on an arrest warrant alleging failure to comply with a court order stemming from a 2002 drunken driving conviction.

He remained in Washoe County Jail on $28,595 bail.
