RENO, NV - Twenty-three-year old Jessica Bradley has been out of work since last year. She received her final unemployment check last week. News that the benefits will be extended has her pretty excited.
“Complete joy, excitement, but anxious like when,” said Jessica.
Bradley use to work at a treatment center until it was taken over by a large corporation. She and a handful of others were laid off. At first, she says she wasn't too worried.
“You know unemployment is not going to mean anything because I'm going to get a job like at least within a month,” said Jessica.
Even without limiting her options, she has still come up empty-handed after more than a year of searching. News of an additional six weeks of unemployment benefits will really help out. But she has a lot of questions.
Jessica Bradley: “I want to know how soon we can receive our checks. How long does it take for the state to actually get the money. How long is it going to take the state to set up its computer program so they can actually disperse the funds.
According to the state employment security division there are about 12-thousand Nevadans who could qualify for this money. Once the state receives guidelines, it will notify recipients by letter. Recipients won't have to re-apply for anything, However they will have to check in once a week by phone as normal.
Mae Worthey with the state's department of employment would not put a time line on when all this is supposed to happen. But she did say it should happen quickly.
