Reno police say new statistics show the number of violent crimes and property crimes fell last year from the prior year.
Police Chief Michael Poehlman says overall, crime fell 2 percent last year from 2005.
Additionally, he says last year's overall crime rate of 57.4 per 1,000 thousand population is down from 60.6 in 2005 and 58.59 in 2004.
Violent crime statistics include murder, rape, robbery and assault.
The number of murders last year was more than double each of the two prior years.
The department says there were 23 murders in Reno last year, up from eight in 2005 and nine in 2004.
Robberies rose to 523, compared with 421 and 464 in 2005 and 2004, respectively.
Incidents of assault fell from 980 in 2005 and 884 in 2004 to 833 last year.
