ELY, Nev. (AP) - A Fallon man was killed early today when his
van overturned on U-S Highway 93 north of Ely. The wreck triggered
two other accidents that injured three men, killed six cattle and
closed the highway for more than six hours.
The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Mason Dee Dyer. He
died from injuries he suffered when the northbound 1973 Ford van he
was driving rolled into the southbound lane about 33 miles north of
Ely just after midnight.
Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman George Edwards says the crash
led to another when a truck hauling cattle swerved to avoid the
overturned van and flipped onto its right side.
The driver of that truck and his passenger both sustained
injuries but no details were immediately available.
Six of the 29 cattle in the trailer also died in the accident.
Another collision occurred about a mile south of the accident
scene when one truck rear-ended another commercial vehicle that had
slowed due to the back up of traffic.
A 24-year-old Louisiana man, Robert Moore, was injured in that
crash. He was transported by Ely ambulance to the William Ririe
Hospital where his condition was not immediately known.
