Douglas County commissioners have approved the development of the historic Adams Ranch north of Genoa.

Developer Greg Painter said the Eagle Ridge project will involve 57 residential units on more than 1,000 acres, with 740 acres as open space.

Construction is expected to begin this summer.

Residential units in the development will be clustered near Jacks Valley Road, with lots from three to 14 acres. About half will be between three and four acres.

Much of Thursday's discussion centered on plans for a public trail through the property to U.S. Forest Service land to the northwest.

Under conditions of approval, Eagle Ridge at Genoa LLC will provide easements for a pedestrian trail and a future parking lot for six vehicles as a trailhead.

Public use of the 15-foot-wide trail is prohibited until the easement is improved or is placed in public agency ownership.
