VALMY, NV - Investigators are looking into a trail derailment in Humboldt County west of Battle Mountain.
The incident was first reported around 12:15 a.m. Monday morning. A spokesman for the Humboldt County Sheriff's Office said Union-Pacific train bound for Oakland was traveling from Chicago when at least 15 cars jumped the tracks just west of the town of Valmy. There were no injuries.
There was also no spills or release of any hazardous materials. Investigators say they were told the train was carrying a load of "mixed freight." There is no word on how long that section of the railroad track will be closed.
Railroad officials are investigating the cause of the derailment, and are still trying to figure out exactly how many railcars derailed.
Interstate 80 near exit 212 was briefly closed in both directions as a precaution. That section of interstate has since been reopened.
