RENO, Nev. (AP) - Washoe County's Regional Transportation Commission is eying 66 homes for an accelerated buyout program to make way for a new intersection at a busy junction in Sparks.
The Reno Gazette-Journal reports the RTC would spend about $23 million to buy property and help relocate willing sellers. Other properties would be acquired through eminent domain.
The RTC is planning a major overhaul at Pyramid Way and McCarran Boulevard. Construction is expected to begin in 2015.
The $71 million project is one of RTC's top priorities. The intersection handles about 60,000 vehicles per day and is one of the most gridlocked and accident-prone intersections in the Truckee Meadows.
