A chance to learn -- And maybe find employment with 15 companies. The University of Phoenix hosted a career fair at its South Reno facility on Saturday.
Kristina Ray was among the hopefuls -- she was laid off three months ago.
"That one I was at a week shy of a year, but I also was with another company for almost like 14 and a half years before I was laid off from them too," Ray said.
Candidates learned how to sharpen their job hunting skills, and got to speak with potential employers.
"You gotta get in there and really work at it if you're willing for a good work ethic to get in there and to it then AFLAC can be very rewarding," Gerald Neville of AFLAC said.
Pro-Net a non-profit that helps those out of work said attendance at the fair was constant.
"I don't know if it's fewer but different people are out there looking for work we've been seeing our Pro-Net numbers increase but we've also seen the same number of people going out of the program that have come into the program," a Pro-Net representative said.
Ray is experienced with payroll and customer service, but says she's thinking it might be time to add some skills.
"Maybe looking into adding medical or something that will provide more longevity," she said.

grammar check...?
Does the UoP have studies in proof-reading for printed work? I want to suggest the Gazette-Journal hire some better proof-readers. These mistakes are really aggravating to see. Spellcheck is not the cure for these errors.
