Sparks Woman Charged In Fatal Shooting Of Boyfriend

A 30-year-old Sparks woman who telephoned police to report an accidental shooting has been charged in the shooting death of her teenage boyfriend.

Shawna O'Hara was booked on one count of open murder. She was being held Thursday in the Washoe County Jail without bail.

O'Hara is accused of the fatal shooting of Jeremy Earl Dinkens, 17, at her Sparks home early Tuesday.

Sparks police commander Bob Schmidt said she called 911 shortly before 1 a.m. and indicated someone was showing a friend a gun when it accidentally went off.

Dinkens was pronounced dead at the scene from a single gunshot wound to the back.

Police arrested O'Hara based on her comments to police and evidence found at the scene, Schmidt said.
