Investigators say the deaths of two people at South Lake Tahoe appear to be a murder-suicide.
The bodies of 68-year-old Stanley Reinert and his 69-year-old wife Shirley sere found on Saturday. An autopsy determined that she died from a gunshot wound in the back of the head.
A small-caliber handgun was found beneath Stanley Reinert's
El Dorado County Sheriff's Coroner Larry Olsen said the autopsies revealed the two died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Police Detective Bryan Kuhlmann says there was no note, no indication the marriage was anything but happy and no reason to believe the couple was hit with bad news, such as a diagnosis of a terminal illness, before their deaths.
Kuhlmann says it's his best guess the shootings were spontaneous
and not planned.
