Mom Of Sparks Student Suspected Of School Embezzlement

The mother of a Sparks elementary school student was arrested Monday on suspicion of embezzlement for allegedly pocketing about $800 meant for a school fund-raiser.

Monica Hurdle allegedly went door-to-door with brochures selling cookie dough, cocoa and cheesecakes, Sparks police said.

She allegedly told dozens of people the money would go to Katherine Dunn elementary school. But school officials say she never turned the money in.

Hurdle turned herself in to Sparks detectives Monday and was booked into the Washoe County jail on one count of embezzlement.

Sparks police have discovered 47 victims so far.
