A Reno man has been arrested on suspicion of drunken driving in an accident that killed one pedestrian and seriously injured another.

Mark Hicks, 21, was booked into the Washoe County Jail after the accident Friday night near Sutro and Timber streets.

Police said Irma Padilla-Collins, 61, of Reno, died early Saturday morning at a Reno hospital.

She and Ruby Lopez, 7, of Reno, were crossing Sutro when they were struck and thrown more than 50 feet by Hicks' car.

The child suffered life-threatening injuries, including a broken leg, broken ribs and head trauma, police said.

Collins was a close friend of the child's family and the two were returning from dinner at the time.

Hicks escaped uninjured.
