For those diagnosed with type one diabetes, it's a constant routine of monitoring blood sugar and an increased risk of complication, like heart disease and kidney problems. But Sunday hundreds of your neighbors marched for a cure at UNR.
"It means that I have diabetes and my pancreas stopped working," 7-year-old Alli Christy said.
7-year-old Alli Christy has her own team.
"She was diagnosed when she was 4 so this is our 4th year out here walking for Alli," Michelle Turri said.
They walk for many kids -- a medical Web site estimates as many as 2.4 million suffer from type one diabetes. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is working to find a cure.
"Everyone of them has their own story and everyone of them needs a slightly different level of support," Walker Ray Neill said.
Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons even signing a holiday album to raise money at the event. Through fund raising efforts like this, JDRF collected $156-million last year.
Natalie VanHoozer says type one diabetes don't hold her classmate back.
"He doesn't seem any different than any of us but it's just hard knowing that you're different than the other kids around you," Natalie VanHoozer said.
And juvenile diabetes can lead to serious complications -- That's why so many are marching toward finding a cure.
