Law enforcement officers from at least 4 agencies responded to the scene of a high-speed crash that sent debris flying across Interstate 80, just east of the Vista Avenue offramp.
The Nevada Highway Patrol says the crash happened at 12:37 am. Officers closed the eastbound side of the interstate at the Vista offramp for 90 minutes. A portion of the westbound side was closed, as well, due to evidence laying on the road. Westbound traffic had to get off at Vista, but then could re-enter.
NHP says the chase began in Churchill County. It continued through Lyon County, Storey County, and Washoe County, until the suspect's vehicle crashed. NHP says the driver has a collapsed lung and several broken bones, but dispatchers say it's non-life threatening. The passenger is said to have minimal injuries. Their names have not been released.
The vehicle -- a red Honda Civic -- landed upside down in the median, and its rear was significantly crumpled. Glass shards could be seen littering the roadway. Bags containing clothing appeared to have been thrown roughly 40-50 feet from the vehicle.
