Mayor Marv Teixeira was arrested Monday night on suspicion of drunken driving and speeding, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
Teixeira was stopped by a NHP trooper shortly before 10 p.m. on Carson City's main street. The patrol issued a statement Tuesday saying the mayor's car was going 50 mph in a posted 35 mph zone and
when stopped he smelled of alcohol and couldn't perform any standard field sobriety tests.
Teixeira was taken into custody, then released on approximately $1,300 bail, according to Sheriff Ken Furlong. This was the mayor's
first time being pulled over for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, Furlong added.
A Justice Court appearance was scheduled for April 5. Teixeira submitted to a blood test and those results won't be available for several weeks, the NHP said.
