Work has begun on a new freeway interchange designed to ease congestion at U.S. 395 and Clear Acre Lane in north Reno.

Scheduled for completion in 2006, Regional Transportation Commission officials said Monday the project includes widening McCarran Boulevard to six lanes and replacing two overpasses.

Regional transportation officials also plan a new freeway interchange at Meadowood Mall in the fast-growing south Reno area.

With a price tag of $28 million, funding for that project hasn't yet been found but officials said it is at the top of their list for seeking federal assistance.
