A potent winter storm walloped the Sierra with several feet of new snow and blanketed the valleys of western Nevada.
Interstate 80 westbound opened about 6:30 this morning after it was shut down last night because of poor visibility. Although it is open, traffic was backed up all the way to Mogul.
In the valleys around Reno and Carson City, snow amounts ranged
from a few inches to more than a foot.
While the brunt of the storm has moved on, forecasters say the region could see more snow showers today through Wednesday.
