A missing snowboarder was found after spending part of a frigid night in the Sierra Nevada west of Lake Tahoe, authorities said.
But after he was returned to the Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort, Adrian Angel, 27, of Santa Cruz was cited on suspicion of unlawfully exiting the resort boundaries, El Dorado County sheriff's deputies said.
Deputies said Angel faces criminal prosecution for alleged out-of-bounds snowboarding, and might be forced to pay for rescue costs.
Angel became separated from two friends just after 12:30 p.m. Saturday when they intentionally snowboarded away from resort boundaries, deputies said.
A search for him began at 6 p.m. and searchers located his tracks at 8 p.m. Searchers followed his tracks through steep, icy terrain for nearly two hours before locating him.
Angel, an experienced snowboarder, showed signs of hypothermic shock but otherwise was uninjured.
He wandered lost away from the resort for nine hours before being rescued, deputies said.
