Nevada Highway patrol says one person has died after being involved in a two-vehicle accident on eastbound I-80 near Fernley Sunday.

Chuck Allen with NHP says that around 4:00 pm, troopers responded to the accident located about 27 miles east of Fernley.

Officers say a 1988 gold BMW struck the back of a 2001 silver Dodge Caravan in the right hand lane of eastbound I-80. The Caravan veered off the freeway and rolled several times.

The Caravan’s passenger, 46-year-old Damon M. Faust of Utah, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Barbara C. Faust of Utah, was transported by Care Flight to Renown Regional Medical Center and remains in intensive care.

The driver of the BMW suffered minor injuries.

The accident is still being investigated and officers are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Trooper Mike Stapledon at (775) 689-4623 regarding case # NHP-0909200761.

Jo. The accident occurred on I-80 in Churchill County at mile marker 75. That is 27 miles east of Fernley. Fallon is east on U.S. Highway 50. KOLO was correct and is reporting the same as local newspapers.

This is such a tragic accident. Barbara and Damon are wonderful people and have a beautiful family of 10 children. Damon will be missed tremendously. Our prayers go out to the entire family.

Dozens of lives are changed by this tragedy. And we so appreciate the outpouring of love from so many. There is a benefit account set up at Zions Bank for Damon. We have a long road ahead.
