City planners say, before this decision, there was no policy that required developers to include those provisions when building a project.
Now, any development constructed on priority open space or greenways is subject to certain restrictions.
Priority areas include North Valleys playas, Peavine Peak and Mount Rose drainages, White's Lake, Silver Lake, and Swan Lake, Rosewood Canyon and Rosewood Wash.
Scenic Nevada and Sierra Club say this protection will allow for proper water flow and the cultivation of wildlife habitat.
The plan next goes before the city council for final approval on March 7th.
