Last week's storms were skimpy by normal Tahoe standards, but this hasn't been a normal year.
And the fresh powder seems to have given skiers new hope.
Resort operators say the Presidents Day weekend crowd is smaller
than last year, but still is robust.
All the lifts at Heavenly are open, but some of the trails still remain closed.
At Mount Rose Ski Tahoe, about 95 percent of the ski area is open on the Mount Rose side and about 75 percent on the Slide Mountain side.
Squaw Valley is operating 33 of 34 lifts and has opened Silverado, which is 600 acres of terrain for advanced skiers.
Some California schools are giving students this week off and resorts hope that will bring more skiers to the slopes.
