Carson Jail Escapee Captured In Reno

A Carson City Jail escapee was captured at a Reno motel less than seven hours after he scaled a wall at the jail.

Shaun Lawrence, 22, is facing additional jail time after his escape early Friday morning, sheriff's deputies said.

Lawrence was working in the jail kitchen when he took out trash and hopped the wall about 6:25 a.m., deputies said.

Lawrence then fled to a waiting car and was driven to Reno. He was traced later in the day to the Oxford Motel in Reno, where he was found hiding under a bed.

He was serving a six-month sentence for violating his probation on a misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He had been in custody since Dec. 5.

Two friends, Russell Shackleford and Barbara Hubert, were arrested on suspicion of aiding an escape. A similar charge is pending against another friend.
