Former Teacher Sentenced For Serving Booze To Students

A Reno-area high school special education teacher was sentenced to six months probation for serving beer at her home to two teenage boys.

At the same time Friday, Justice of the Peace Susan Deriso ordered Amee Cox, 30, to perform 100 hours of community service and pay a $550 fine.

"This was a breach of the community's trust," Deriso said.

Cox, who resigned from her position at North Valleys High School, pleaded guilty to one count of contributory delinquency and one count of furnishing alcohol to a person under 21.

Cox was arrested Nov. 20 after allegations surfaced that she had given beer to the boys between November 2002 and July 2003.

One of the boys had been in her special education class, and the other was a friend of his, prosecutors said. One was 17 and the other 18 at the time.
