A missing 18-year-old snowboarder spent a cold night in the wild Sierra before a search and rescue team found him near Lake Tahoe, sheriff's deputies said Tuesday.
Ryan Stack of Pacifica, Calif., got lost Sunday near the Sierra at Tahoe Ski Resort, the Eldorado County Sheriff's Office said.
Searchers found the teen about 3:30 a.m. Monday in the Sayles Canyon outside the resort boundaries, Deputy Greg Almos said.
Stack was "very cold" but "due to his determination to survive, he did not suffer any serious injuries," Almos said.
Stack said he became separated from his friends while they were skiing in the West Bowl area of the resort, became disoriented and wandered out of bounds, Almos said.
The California Highway Patrol, Placer County Sheriff's nordic team and Sierra at Tahoe Ski Patrol also joined in the search.
