RENO, NV - A Reno church is now home to the largest solar array ever installed on a church in Nevada. That's because of a program called Solar Generations by NV Energy, which uses rebates to offset the costs of solar panels.

The program started six years ago, and since then, 2.7 megawatts of solar energy have been installed, and participants have received more than $10,000,000 in rebates. At the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Reno, panels have only recently been installed, thanks to the program and Black Rock Solar.

A new state rule requires 20% renewable energy in Nevada by 2015, 5% of which must come from solar panels. The plan is for the church and its adjoining school to eventually produce as much electricity as they'll use, which will save an estimated $340,000 in electricity costs over the 25-year life of the panels.

The church is inviting the public to attend its official solar panel dedication Thursday morning around 11. It will take place at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 7125 West 4th Street in Reno. The phone number is 775-322-9642.
