Extreme Makeover Mustang Edition 2
Reno Imagine taking an animal out of the wild and trying to earn its trust enough to live with you, carry you, and travel with you. That's the challenge of a local horse trainer as she prepares a wild mustang for national competition in Forth Worth, Texas.

Mustang 4518 fought hard as wranglers tried to place a halter on him at the B-L-M adoption center in Palomino Valley. 20 minutes later he is loaded into Saunya Bolton’s trailer and headed to her home in Lemmon Valley.
“Ok, you guys we did it,” said Saunya as the horse trotted out of the trailer and into his new home.
This quite literally isn't Saunya’s first time at the rodeo. Last year she trained another wild mustang Diva, who was successfully adopted at the Western States Mustang Challenge.
We caught up with Diva and her owners at their home in the Red Rock area. Janice Harken-Hamblin says she remembers the night her husband Steve bid on Diva.
“It was my birthday and he kept bidding and he kept bidding and he kept bidding, until he bought me the horse. Well she's prefect, “says Janice.
Happy and healthy, the Hamblin's have Diva's adoption papers from the BLM, and believe programs like Extreme Mustang Makeover encourage former, current and future horse owners to consider a wild mustang.
But, its trainers like Saunya though that must bridge the gap between wild and worthwhile companion. Unlike Diva who was calm, Mustang 45-18 has an excited curiosity that can work in
Saunya’s favor.
“He wanted to know what was going on. He's very nosey. Rather than turn his rear end to you and walk away, he would face all of us and come to kind of greet us,” says Saunya.
Together Saunya and the mustang will take on a lot of firsts: Leading, saddles, trailer loading, ponying, and riding. We'll show them all to you, in our next report.
