A triple shooting has left a mother and father dead and their seven-year-old son in the hospital.
Lyon County Sheriff's deputies are now looking for leads in the case.
The shooting happened in the town of Mound House, just east of Carson City.
Deputies are going on forensic evidence, and the clues they can get from the two children who were inside the home at the time of the shooting.
It is early in the investigation, but Investigators say they are determined to find the killer.
Six hours after the first 911 call, two bodies are taken from this home at 2 Pyrite Drive in Mound House.
Detectives say Richard and Tamara Schmerber, both 42-years-old, were shot to death in their kitchen. Their seven-year-old son was also shot twice in the back. Careflight took him to Washoe Med where he underwent surgery.
"Hopefully the seven-year-old will be able to shed light on the situation. He's in real bad shape right now," says Sgt. Jim Cupp of the Lyon County Sheriff's Office.
The boy's 12-year-old sister was home at the time. Deputies say she hid in her room, then called 911 when she found her family.
"The girl is doing fine. She's a tough one. She's been really good with us," says Lieutenant John Arndell.
Neighbors say they're shocked . . . describing the family as friendly but private.
Neighbor Erlinda Mason described the family as "very nice, very quiet people."
The family has lived here for about a year and a half.
Police are now questioning neighbors and co-workers who might know more about the Schmerbers.
"We're on top of this - we're gonna find out who did this," Cupp says.
But right now, sheriff's deputies still have no motive for the shootings.
The couple had one other daughter who was in school at the time of the shooting. All three children are now in the care of their grandparents.
