A Jan. 24 public memorial service has been set in Reno for Cole Campbell, the University of Nevada, Reno journalism dean who was killed in a traffic accident last week.
The service will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Nightingale Hall on the UNR campus, with a reception to follow at the Donald W. Reynolds School of Journalism.
A memorial service also is set for Saturday at Campbell's alma mater, the University of North Carolina.
Campbell was killed in a single-vehicle accident on an icy roadway Friday in Reno.
Campbell, a former editor of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va., became head of the UNR journalism school in July 2004. He won praise for his futuristic approach to media.
Campbell is survived by his wife, Catherine, and son, Clarke, both of Reno, and daughter Claire of Brooklyn, N.Y.
