Reno Police are continuing their investigation into the shooting of a pit bull yesterday afternoon.

Police say officers were investigating a destruction of property call at Community Garden Apartments.

The resident who made the call directed police to one of the apartments where they say the suspect lived.

Police say they went to that apartment.

The man who answered the door held a dog by the collar.

The dog broke loose and came toward one of the officers standing in front of the door.

Police say the officer tried to protect himself with his left forearm -- the dog went after it twice making contact both times.

That's when Police say the officer fatally shot the dog.

The police officer was not seriously injured.
