Lemmon Valley Stand-Off

By  |

A daylong showdown with Washoe County deputies ended with the suspect on his front porch with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest.

The suspect in this case has been identified as 32-year-old Daniel Gwyn. Reno Police sent out an alert at about 9:13 Thursday morning about a sexual assault involving a child. A Washoe County Sheriff's motorcycle officer spotted the suspect less than ten minutes later and followed him to Birch Street in Lemmon Valley, a house of a relative.

SWAT and Negotiation teams were called to the scene ten minutes after that. The teams were heavily armed because we were told Gwyn had access to many weapons, including a high powered rifle.

Residents on Birch street were told to leave the area.

Power was eventually cut to the house and negotiation teams continued talking to Gwyn for several hours. At about 3:15 Thursday afternoon, teams reported Gwyn was out on the porch of the house with a self inflicted gun shot wound to the chest.

Gwyn was taken from the scene awake and alert. He does have a prior arrest, but we don't know what he was booked for. In the meantime he was taken to Renown Medical Center where he is being treated for that gun shot to the chest.
