Reno police say the containers of big box Christmas presents could serve as a shopping list for thieves scouting your neighborhood.
Sergeant John Tarter says boxes from higher priced Christmas gifts such as computers, computer game systems, televisions and similar items that are left by the curb provide burglars with information that can help them target homes.
Tarter, who works in the burglary section of the department's Detective Division, says the best thing people can do to avoid providing burglars with ready information about gifts received is to break down boxes and put them out for recycling the morning that recycles are scheduled to be picked up.
