CRESCENT CITY, Calif. (AP) - Northern California authorities say more arrests are pending in the case of an opium shipment hidden in a package of shovels from Laos that led investigators to a stash of pot and guns and a girl allegedly in an arranged relationship.
The Daily Triplicate of Crescent City reports that Del Norte County sheriff's deputies serving search warrants on the address on the package and another home uncovered the contraband.
They found 127 pounds of processed marijuana, 102 pounds of immature plants, 16 guns, more than $32,000 cash and several welfare checks. The shovels, intercepted by the Department of Homeland Security, contained nearly three pounds of opium.
Authorities have arrested four in connection with last week's bust, including one man suspected of molestation for his alleged relationship with the 14-year-old girl.
