NV Parade Grand Marshal Bows Out
Fernley's 40th annual Fourth of July parade took place Saturday with a new grand marshal after organizers' first choice withdrew because he could not prove he had received the Navy Cross.

FERNLEY, Nev. (AP) - Fernley's 40th annual Fourth of July parade took place Saturday with a new grand marshal after organizers' first choice withdrew because he could not prove he had received the Navy Cross.
Andrew "Andy" LePeilbet, who was earned the Distinguished Service Cross, Purple Heart and Bronze Star, replaced Arthur Yonkey as honoree in the town about 30 miles east of Reno.
Parade organizers say Yonkey bowed out Wednesday night after he
declined to provide documentation that he had received the Navy Cross, the nation's second highest medal for valor next to the Medal of Honor.
Officials of the Legion of Valor, which tracks people who are awarded military honors, contacted organizers after failing to find Yonkey's name as a Navy Cross recipient.
Yonkey declined to comment.
