The husband of former Nevada controller Kathy Augustine pleaded not guilty to a charge that he murdered Augustine last summer by injecting her with a hard-to-detect drug.
Chaz Higgs entered his plea today during a brief arraignment before Washoe District Judge Steven Kosach, who scheduled a tentative July 16th trial date.
Afterward, Higgs' lawyer David Houston said he plans to file a motion challenging a justice court finding that there was sufficient probable cause for Higgs to stand trial.
Prosecutors allege Higgs, a critical care nurse, poisoned Augustine with succinylcholine called "sux" by medical workers.
Higgs, a 42-year-old critical care nurse, called paramedics to their northern Nevada home early on July 8th, saying he had found the 50-year-old Augustine in their bed unconscious and not breathing.
She died three days later.
