RENO, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada State Board of Nursing is investigating complaints against five managers at a Reno hospital and its emergency department.

A nurse fired from Renown Regional Medical Center tells the Reno Gazette-Journal that a complaint alleging violations of labor laws and poor quality of care was filed to the board.

Hospital officials say they have been notified of the board's investigation.

The hospital has issued a statement saying it "believes the allegations are without merit."

The complaint says nurses were required to draw blood from patients without proper protection from blood-borne diseases. It tells of patients being misplaced by nurses and not fully evaluated.

The complaint blames the problems on decreased nursing staff.

The place that at one time made you feel you were doing what was best for our community now feels like walking into hell everyday. 90% of the ER staff is walking around stating I hate my job and wondering if they are the next person that will be stabbed in the back and fired/let go. When it used to be I love what I do. The moral is so low you can not measure it, it is like walking on egg shells. We are a family a team that works well together yet now at work we are afraid to talk to each other. The ER physicians have never seen it this bad. Piece by piece the place is becoming a living nightmare with 6 hour waits in the lobby and patient not getting the care they deserve. Look closely at the ER. I see it fall apart more and more each day. Someone will die if things are not corrected a director is fired.
