A 13-year-old Sparks boy has been arrested for bringing to school a handgun and ammunition that he allegedly took from a relative's vehicle.
Washoe County School District officials say a classmate saw the boy was playing bullets during class and notified a counselor through the school's Secret Witness program.
District spokesman Steve Mulvenon says the ammunition didn't fit the pistol and the boy told the principal he didn't intend to use the weapon he kept in his locker.
The youth was booked into the Jan Evans Juvenile Justice Center on suspicion of possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds
and being a minor in possession of a firearm. He could face expulsion.
