An arrest warrant has been issued for a Stead man who failed to appear for sentencing in the strangulation death of his wife.
Karl Schnueringer, 44, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in September and was released on $5,000 bail. He was charged with killing his wife, Debbie Kay Schnueringer, in March.
A warrant for his arrest was issued earlier this month when he failed to report to court officials and didn't complete counseling for drug abuse.
When he didn't appear for sentencing on Thursday, his bail was increased to $100,000 cash only.
Authorities said Schnueringer claimed his wife had been using diet pills and became sick after helping him chop wood earlier that day. But an autopsy showed she suffered multiple bruises and had been strangled.
In pleading guilty to the lesser charges, Schnueringer claimed the killing was committed in the "heat of passion."
