The teenager who was driving a car involved in a fatal accident Friday night in which his passenger was killed has been identified as Travis Gibson, a member of Galena High School's varsity football team.
The 17-year-old was driving a red BMW down Geiger Grade near the junction with U-S 395 shortly before midnight when it went out of control on a curve and overturned.
18-year-old passenger Chaz O'Neil, who also played on the Galena
football team, was ejected. He was flown to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Gibson was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was treated and released. The NHP is continuing its investigation into whether alcohol may have been a factor in the wreck.
